A Lazy Saturday

It’s Saturday, 12:44 p.m.. I’m sitting in my apartment with a lot of things on my mind but this isn’t a therapy session, this is simply a list of things going on around me at the moment.

It’s been raining most of the morning, currently there is a downpour. I can tell the gutters aren’t doing their job due to the literal waterfall in front of my front room window.

I can hear the rain trickling on the rooftop. It’s a nice apartment, just renovated, but the rain is heavy and they are all single story units. There is a small cactus sitting on the AC unit below my window. His name is Bob, he’s doing well, just has a bit of a balancing problem. He likes to lean to one side, but I’m sure he’ll be fine.

There are also two small canvas paintings perched next to him, one of a moose with a backdrop of the mountains, the other a plane taking off against a brilliant orange sky. They were made by a girlfriend, I guess you could say. She’s an amazing woman.

Oh I forgot to mention I’m sitting on a couch, the cheapest one I could find at Walmart. It’s black, everything in this apartment is either black, gray or blue. Simple, that’s the way I like it.

The TV stares at me with an empty black screen. This is its usual state since I don’t use it much. There is a guitar on either side of the TV. A black acoustic on the left, a light blue electric on the right. I play the acoustic quite often, the electric not so much.

There’s some silly books I have yet to read on the TV stand. A camel colored bean bag in the far corner of the room and a single black stool against the granite countertop to fill out the space a bit but it doesn’t really fit with anything else here.

Every so often I will look up at the string of postcards hanging on the back wall. It reminds me of all the places I’ve been, and also the places I have yet to go.

The kitchen is fine, black countertops with light specks sprinkled throughout, white cabinets, a black fridge somehow shoved into the whole mess and a couple cooking utensils scattered here and there.

The rain has now died down a bit, what was once a waterfall is now a slight trickle. It’s starting to get quiet now. The thunder has tampered down but still makes its presence known every so often.

I’ve been writing now for about 13 minutes.

Time is a funny thing. Why did I even write this? A form of mediation? To get some writing practice in? Because I’m bored? Hmm, hard to say.

It’s moments like these when time becomes tangible. When we stop and take in the moment we are in.

Often, the most boring aspects of our lives can be beautiful in a way. Nothing was particularly special about this moment other than the fact that I made it a moment.

Sometimes things are more interesting to read than experience.

Other times things are more interesting to experience than read.

Smile, and have a wonderful day.
